From geology and palaeontology to history, agriculture and art, young people can see and feel how the past impacts on the present.

Geology

Beachy Head is most famous for its glimmering white cliffs. Explore the science behind the formation of the chalk or go hunting for fossils!

History

With a history that stretches back to Nunna, King of the South Saxons in 689, there is plenty to explore with students. Beachy Head’s history also touches on major conflicts, and evidence of World War II defences remain at Cuckmere Haven.

Art

As well as providing inspiration for countless artists, photographers and film-makers, Beachy Head and the village of East Dean host a thriving community of artists.

Wildlife

From rare birds to adders and foxes, the South Downs are home to many species. Some are rather shy though – so you’ll need a keen eye and a quiet foot!
