Beachy Head Marathon 2013 Raises £6300 for Local Charities

BHMarathon2013-1000On Tuesday 21 January the Mayor of Eastbourne, Cllr Mike Thompson, will present cheques to the voluntary groups and charities who assisted with the Beachy Head Marathon in 2013.

A total of £6300 was raised, showing a 12% increase on the previous year, and will be divided between the following voluntary organisations and charities: Rotary Club of Hailsham, Eastbourne Voluntary Lifeguards, Maritime and Coastguard Agency for Birling Gap and Eastbourne, Chestnut Tree House Hospice, Beachy Head Ramblers, Seaford Striders, Eastbourne Sea Cadets, Tuesday O’ Hara Fund, The Mayor of Eastbourne’s charities and St John Ambulance.

These organisations assisted with providing the checkpoints around the course, stewarding both the marathon and new 10k race, and supplying first aid and lifeguard cover.

The Mayor of Eastbourne, Cllr Mike Thompson said “The successful Beachy Head Marathon has once again raised an impressive sum of £6300 for local charities and groups who helped ensure the success of the event.  My grateful thanks to everyone involved.”

The Beachy Head Marathon is one of the biggest off-road marathons in the UK. The 26 mile route takes the 1750 runners across the stunning landscape and challenging terrain of the South Downs countryside, including 300 steps and 14 gates. This year’s Beachy Head Marathon and 10k run will return on 25 October 2014 and entries are now open on www.beachyheadmarathon.co.uk

There is a 10% discount available for runners and their families staying at Beachy Head either in the Holiday Cottages or in The Tiger Inn.
