Birling Gap
Beach and Visitor Centre

The National Trust are working to ensure beautiful Beachy Head is an even better destination for a fun day out.

Improvements at Birling Gap include a beautiful new garden, a new shop, extended café and a new information centre with improvements to the car park which is free for members.  The National Trust suggest the following activites to do whilst you’re here…

Get outside. There’s no excuse for not getting going with your list at Birling Gap, start with:

  • Roll down a really big hill
  • Eat blackberries growing in the wild
  • Make a grass trumpet
  • Hunt for bugs
  • Call an owl
  • Go on a nature walk at night
  • Visit the smugglers favourite pub the Tiger Inn
  • Go wild swimming
  • Skim a stone
  • Fly a kite

Watch the sun wake up. Get here early and you can see the beautiful sunrise. Or you could hang around in the evening to catch the sunset.

Join us on a rock pool ramble and see what you discover. You could tick off these while you’re there:

  • Check out the crazy creatures in the rock pool
  • Catch a fish with a net
  • Hunt for treasure on the beach
  • Hunt for fossils and bones
  • Catch a crab

Find a geocache. How many are nearby? While you’re at it, you can try; finding your way with a map and compass.

Visit us, come rain or shine. It’s not all sunny days at Birling Gap, but that shouldn’t keep you indoors when you can still:

  • Run around in the rain
  • Throw some snow
  • Go sledging
