Beachy Head helped Eastbourne win the title of the sunniest place in the UK for 2011, after clocking up 1,962 hours of sunshine, more than anywhere else in the UK.
The award troubled the neighbouring town of Hastings, who claim their own equipment recorded 2,010 hours of sunshine.
Philip Eden, the Telegraph’s weather correspondent and manager of weather-uk.com tried to diffuse inter-town tensions, suggesting that equipment used to measure sunshine varies and results are “open to interpretation”.
Despite the controversy, it appears that Eastbourne remains the winner.
However, Eastbourne’s sunshine monitoring equipment is located at Beachy Head. So for the sunniest holiday, Beachy Head is the obvious choice!
